All Medicare Recipients
should now be aware that if they suffer from conditions such as respiratory
disorders, arthritis, cardiovascular disease, has a mobility limitation
and difficulty in propelling a standard wheelchair, they may be eligible
to receive an electric wheelchair paid for with the assistance of Medicare.
National
Coverage Determination (NCD) 280.3 by Centers for Medicare & Medicaid
Services (CMS) May 2005.
If you
have a condition that prevents you from functioning within your home and
you are covered by Medicare Part "B" and/or Private insurance
you could receive a Cortino Mobility powerchair or scooter with little
or no out of pocket expense.
Medical necessity
and reimbursement amounts depend on the individual circumstances and
policies of beneficiary.

POWERCHAIR OR SCOOTER COULD BE CONSIDERED MEDICALLY NECESSARY IF ALL
OF THE FOLLOWING COVERAGE CRITERIA ARE MET:

Your
condition is such that a wheelchair is required for you to get
around your home.

You
are unable to operate a manual chair on your own.

You
are capable of safely operating the controls of a powerchair or
scooter.
-
You
can transfer safely in and out of the scooter and have adequate
trunk stability to be able to safely ride the powerchair or
scooter.
